How to Boost One’s Low Self-Esteem: A Factor of Self- Development

I always look down on myself...

High and low self-esteem: a factor of self-development

Self-esteem is what an individual views and perceives about his or her self. If you have high self-esteem which implies that you are confident with yourself, the outcome would be your disposition in life is somewhat positive and prevailing, thus impacting how you relate to others. Having low self-esteem is not good and the complete opposite of the first one, hence social capabilities are also greatly affected. This is one important area to dwell on with relation to self-development.

Focusing much attention on self-esteem is very critical, for it is believed to be the root or cause for a person to limit his or her ability to do things, interact with other people and achieve total happiness. An individual with low self-esteem doesn’t see good things about himself; he is not glad to be who he is. The core of self-development would teach us how to achieve satisfaction with oneself.

Positive thinking to attain self-development and lift self-esteem

When asked to describe yourself, are you often ashamed and mostly have nothing to say? That would be the case if you do not know yourself well and you are focused on your weaknesses instead of your strengths and good points. When you look in the mirror, you will see a unique and wonderful creation. You have good features that you might not notice or just need to be revealed and enhanced.

Your low self-esteem pushes you to think of negative things about yourself, wherein you can see nothing but flaws; disregarding the big picture and only seeing a small dot. You can do a simple routine every morning when you wake up. Face the mirror and say: “I am beautiful. I’m strong. I can do it!” This is not a spell, nor will a miracle happen, but it will definitely affect your mood for the day. Remember, it’s all in the mind. When you think positive, the confidence level will increase and you will feel happy about yourself.

Self-development implies working on your weaknesses to boost low self-esteem

Everyone has weaknesses; no one is perfect, and this only signifies the basis of being a human. However, this might somehow affect your self-esteem in a way that it will affect how you act, how you think and how you socialise if you don’t know how to handle and counter efficiently.

You might not be aware that these weaknesses could change and bring something good to you. For instance, the criticisms from other people; you may strengthen your low self-esteem when you can handle it and know constructive criticisms may build you up and damaging criticisms may somehow push you to do better; you are not that person they are making you believe you are, hence you are leading your way into righteous self-development.

Self-help For Depression

Self-help For Depression
By Scootie from Flickr.com

Each person is unique and the level of happiness as well as depression will vary. The reason behind this is that there are external factors that may affect our emotions and feelings towards something, like people that surround us, unexpected situations and any circumstances that we may encounter. Sadness is a feeling, it is quite normal in human nature; when it comes to depression, it is a different story. There are several varieties of self-help for depression as it is a prolonged state of sorrow and if not managed properly, may bring unhealthy and negative outcomes that may affect self-development.

Self-help for depression will give way to ultimate self-development

Are you aware, what we think and feel has great impact on our physical body? There are also psychological effects. You may be experiencing stress, negative feelings and most of all depression or anxiety if it is prolonged; it is unhealthy for your body and might transpire into illnesses. Therefore, we should be careful, not only with our physical being but also learning self-help for depression. We need to avoid direct stressors, substances or any situation that will trigger our emotions in a negative way, because again, it is not helpful to deal with them. Both mind and body should be healthy, which if maintained and managed well will lead to proper self-development.

Identifying the root cause, self-help for depression and self-development

Depression is not an unknown state of one’s feelings. There are experiences and circumstances in life that may be the root cause. Self-help for depression will aid you in dealing with the cycle of your behaviour, a continuous pattern that you may not like but may identify those causes. You can never get away from depression and you cannot achieve fulfillment for self-development as long as this issue is unresolved. It is similar to curing a wound when you don’t have any idea of where it is.

Time heals all wounds, a self-help for depression

When a person is depressed, he or she would not be able to eat properly, have enough sleep, would not be able to work efficiently. Bottom line is he or she is not in the mood to do anything, even extremely fun activities. You should know that the mind, emotions, as well as the body are occupied by a dark cloud. But as the saying goes, “Time heals all wounds”. Depression might be a prolonged sadness but it definitely has an end. To stop the cycle, you must be equipped with ways in how to handle and counter negative situations; an aspect of self-development.

Self-Improvement: A Man’s Metamorphosis

self improvement
By Handolio from Flickr.com

There are certain stages in life where an individual will go through various changes to be able to achieve growth and self-development. This is a natural process, a continuous pattern as we age. Self-improvement is a different area to dwell in; it is not an immediate aspect of natural self-development. A person can make a decision as to whether he or she would undergo this procedure. There would be a definite time where self-improvement is crucial for a man’s life to meet distinct criteria for social, emotional, spiritual, physical as well as mental enhancement.

First stage of Self-improvement: A cocoon

Are you often being isolated from the crowd? Are you hiding and hesitant to reveal yourself to people? It is time for you to step out of your shell; a good start for you to reach proper self-development. Social aspect is very significant, thus we need others as no man is an island. Knowing and understanding yourself first is what will trigger your way to effective communication and interaction; hence, you need to improve this area. Assess what you need to change, negative qualities for example; by reducing them in order to meet social norms.

Second stage of Self-improvement: From a caterpillar to begin with self-development

Are you a person that has been tagged with a name ‘ugly duckling’? Do you often feel that you are just like a caterpillar who anticipates the right period for you to bloom into a beautiful butterfly? Every individual is unique and has his or her own qualities, starting with one’s physical attributes. All of us undergo the stage of being a caterpillar and it is up to you if you want to stay that way for the rest of your life. You must be aware that you can make a change. Acceptance is the key, rather than comparing yourself to others. You are already beautiful, you just need to somehow enhance and reveal the beauty within you. The core of self-improvement is that when you feel good about yourself, it comes out naturally, which is also the foundation of self-development.

Final stage of Self-improvement: Becoming a butterfly

Every one of us aspires to reach the ultimate goal of becoming the best we can ever be. But this doesn’t transpire overnight; it will take a lot of time and effort for prevailing results. It is not enough to focus on your appearance alone, which is what others will first see in you, nor establishing your solid social capabilities but depriving your spiritual growth. There should be a balance and holistic maturity to achieve successful self-development.

Self-improvement is a continuous practice. You must remember that becoming a butterfly, one must be kept in a cocoon and come out as a caterpillar first.

What Keeps You Going? Analogy of Motivation

MotivationThere is a saying that if you love what you are doing, you never grow tired of it. This also implies that working on things that you love will make you happy. The drive of an individual and the capacity to do things can’t be measured, for there are no certain standards for motivation and there are different motivating factors to look into. Motivation varies with every person, but the overall impact is powerful, for it promotes goodness and wellness to reach an objective. There are many self-help topics that deal with this area, for it is in line with the aspect of personal growth and development.

Analysing motivation through interests, a self-help assessment

Interests could classify what we are as a person; an instrument to attain our goals and ambitions, as well as in decision making. From critical thinking like when choosing a course in college, to selecting a dress to be worn for the day, interests will often be the basis. If you know what you want to do, your inclination, that will add up to your drive thus becoming a motivating factor for you to act and keep on going. Knowing this, you may obtain personal growth; an individual who aspires and dreams, focuses and works hard for it is a good sign for self-help improvement.

Priorities check, a motivating fuel for personal growth

Setting priorities in life is a good practise. This will serve as your guide as you go along; it greatly affects your attitude towards what you do. It is same with planning ahead and being conscious of your limitations and is somewhat healthy and could be a measurement for personal growth and reducing self-help risk.  Let’s say your priority is work, motivating yourself to put effort and spend your day working will constantly increase.

Mood as a motivating factor

If you woke up one day and you felt that you are not in the mood to do certain things, your motivation to act is affected. Also, when you are happy, enthusiastic, and eager to start your day, you are instantly doing things even beyond your capabilities.

In attaining personal growth, you need that push and drive to keep you going and striving for your utmost potential. Several self-help facets deal with this aspect for they tell an individual to never give up on anything, thus strengthening a person.

Searching for the elusive Happiness

Searching for the elusive Happiness

Happiness

The search for happiness is one of the most important missions that a person embarks on.  For some people, happiness means being healthy, being beautiful, having a wonderful family, a successful career or a successful relationship.  For many, happiness is hard to hold on to like a grain of sand that slips through your hands or a bubble that bursts once you touch it.

So, what is happiness?  As Merriam Webster dictionary defines it, happiness is a state of well-being and contentment.  Since the feeling of contentment is different for everybody, it means that the person itself defines happiness; in this case, YOU.

What is happiness for you?  What will make you feel and say that you are happy?

Here are some tips that may help you find the happiness you are looking for:

  1. Know yourself.  Since only you can define happiness, the first step you need to do before you search for it is to know yourself.  Knowing yourself will lead you half way to your mission.
  2. Your happiness depends on you.  Happiness does not dependent on other people, things or places.  People, things or places are beyond your control and depending on them will eventually make you end up being disappointed in the end.

Here’s an example:  When your happiness depends on a particular person, does it mean that when that person goes away, your happiness goes away with them?  If your answer is YES, then you’ll end up being sad because we cannot hold on to a person forever.  So what do you do?  Take your perspective to the next level.  Happiness does not only depend on the physical presence of the person.  It is the feeling that you have deep within you that nobody can take away.  It is the love that binds you together that makes you happy.  If you hold on to this feeling and accept that a person’s life is not forever, then you will still be happy even if that person leaves.  That is happiness.

  1. Be positive.  There are always two sides to the coin.  If there are disappointments, downsides and negativity, there are positive things to it, for sure.  Just like water in the glass.  If you always see that your glass is half empty, then you only see what you don’t have.  But if you see that your glass is half full, your perspective changes into looking at what you have rather than what you lack.  Happiness is being able to accept and being thankful for what you have.

Happiness is how you view life

We can therefore conclude that happiness is how you view life.  If you are unhappy, it may only mean that you need to change perspectives.  Finding your happiness is a perfect gift that you can give yourself.  It is very wonderful to be happy.  Everybody deserves to be happy.  In the end, it is always good to know that happiness is not really hard to find.  You only need to look deep within you because it is like a ray of light waiting to explode. The journey toward oneself may take a while, but it is always worth it.  Only then can you say that happiness is not as elusive as most people think.

Replace the Negatives in Your Life with Positives and Move Your Life Ahead

Replace the Negatives in Your Life with Positives and Move Your Life Ahead

Goal Setting Motivation

Many of us are not aware of the amount of negative influences in our lives. We are often bombarded with negative messages from the media, with people around us, and the most damaging of them all, ourselves. It is right for us to have motivation in order to move our life ahead.

First step of the process in replacing negatives with positives in our lives is to make a decision to start looking for the negative messages and ways to replace them with positive ones. You must have a goal setting and motivation to do this. Decide that you will focus on the positive in this world.

Goal Setting helps with Motivation

Begin to drastically cut down on the amount of news you take in. Most people start their day with the news. Basically, most of the news is bad news like fires, floods, etc., and then it is on to traffic and weather, which can also stress the negatives. By the time you finish your coffee, you have had enough bad news to last a week and it is probably giving rise to a lot of negative vibes. It becomes the central task of anyone interested in actualising their enormous potential to become involved in the process of attitudinal transformation, thus, giving you so much stress wherever you are. Do you think bad news make you want to open the door and greet the new day with a smile? Quite the opposite, I guess. How about the way we end the day? Many of us watch the news before going to bed and get a big dose of negative information just before trying to go to sleep. Now, we wonder why there are a lot of people having trouble sleeping. The mood we are in before we go to sleep carries over to the next morning, so you are setting yourself up for starting the next day in a bad mode. You should have a mind-set that you must always think positive and have it in your life every moment of your life. Odds are, you don’t need all that negative information you are taking in from the news, and you will function just fine without it.

Replace the news you were taking in with such things as, motivational tapes and uplifting music, that stress good news. Also reading empowering books helps a great deal. Books can be a fantastic way to recharge your life.  Look for success stories, biographies of successful people, etc. and see what works for you.  You will begin to feel better right away and become one of your achievements.

The next step in replacing the negatives in your life is to limit the amount of TV you watch.  A recent study showed that 78% of the people watching TV are not interested in the program they are watching at any given time.  So watching TV is probably making you bored at best, and taking you away from activities that would be more fun.  Prime time is the period when most people are watching TV; you can make it your prime time by turning off the TV and using that time to move your life ahead. Have a goal setting to that every now and then.

Next, you need to limit your exposure to negative people.  Most people don’t realise how draining it is to be around negative people, but they drain your energy and spirit in many ways.  Negative people pull you down, so work to remove them from your life to the extent you can.  Never get involved in the office pity party, or complaint sessions that come your way.   Seek out people that support you and that you feel good being around and use these people to replace the negative people in your life.  Being with support people that makes and encourages you to be happy is the best thing to do. Remember, happiness makes your mind and thoughts clear.

Most of us generate lots of negative self-talk that our minds accept as the truth and results in our being held back in many ways.  We focus on our shortcomings, our problems, and spend our time predicting more bad news for ourselves, generating lots of fear and worry, while undercutting our ability to try new things, etc.  Begin to focus on the positive aspects of you.  What are your unique strengths, what have you accomplished, how are you different and better than other people? You can use visualisation and affirmations to build images of yourself accomplishing the things you want and use these to replace the negative images.  Give yourself lots of credit for everything you do right, so you are getting even more positive news about yourself.  Also, set aside three minutes every day to think about all the good things you have in your life right now. Always remember that everytime you think of positive thoughts to yourself and to others as well, will you have success in every endeavour you might encounter. It is better to follow your heart and see what’s inside you to give you happiness. The process of thinking of the good things in your life will generate good feelings for you that will last much of the day.

Don’t forget to take care of your body.  Eat healthy, cut out some bad habits, and get regular exercise in order to boost your self-esteem, while building your strength and endurance, so you can accomplish more.   Motivation is what you really need.

Helping others will also help you feel better about yourself.  Take time to get involved in a charity, animal shelter, or other activities that help others.  You will get good feedback from others and develop a genuine sense that you are a good person.  What you put out comes back to you, so make sure it is good that goes out. Have a goal setting on your mind and follow it from time to time.

Motivation and Goal Setting will increase your happiness

By replacing the negatives in your life, with positives, you will make yourself and probably the world a better place.  You will feel better mentally and physically, as well as accomplish many of the things you wanted to.  Nothing is ever accomplished without action, so start now to move your life ahead. Having motivation and goal setting will have you at your utmost success.

How to Develop a Motivated Mindset

How to Develop a Motivated Mindset
Image via Wikipedia

How to Develop a Motivated Mindset

Motivation is having the proper mindset. Getting motivated may sound like having to change your priorities, but the truth is, it’s about changing your perspective. Having the right mindset to tackle a task means that you should start by taking a break and loosen up a bit.Inspiration can come from anything; you can be motivatedjust by listening to your favourite kind of music,or maybe walking a few metres away from your office to get a cup of coffee.Taking a 15 minute nap can rejuvenate one’s mind. Chatting with friends or colleagues can certainly wind down your stress meter.

Here are some few tips to Develop a Motivate Mindset :

1. Take a “Time Out”
Prolonged stress can wear us down and zap any enthusiasm we have. Before doing anything else we must get motivated. Take a few minutes to breathe, empty your mind of all stress and worry. This takes practice, but don’t give up! As thoughts come into your mind, gently push them back out and continue to keep your mind empty and calm. Take slow deep breaths and let all of your muscles relax. Sit quietly and think of many positive things. Try to do this daily, or even twice a day (morning and night).A simple inspiration will help you to get motivated. We need quiet time to be able to think thoroughly and make good decisions. Give yourself the gift of inner peace and have a motivated mindset.

2. Get Inspired
Read something motivational, inspirational or uplifting. Look at some beautiful nature photos, or read something humorous. Consciously move your thoughts to a more positive place. Focusing on nothing but work and our daily tasks in life can leave us feeling pretty uninspired. Getting motivated can help us do the trick. It’s easy to turn it around if we want to. We just have to seek out things that will lift our spirits and our moods. Make it a point to laugh, be happy, joyful and light hearted each day, motivation is what we need. Don’t wait for inspiration to come knocking on your door, go out and find it, or create it. Conjure up some funny or touching memories. Write them in a journal so you can go back and read them when you’re feeling down.

3. Get Excited
Think about the things you have planned for the day, and rekindle the enthusiasm you once felt for them. Inspiration and motivation is what you need. When we first begin a new project, or start a new job, we are excited about the possibilities and eager to get moving! Over time, we can lose that enthusiasm for a variety of reasons. Travel back in time for a moment, and think about what got you so excited at the beginning. What made your heart beat a little faster? Recapture that feeling and hang on to it! Even if your tasks aren’t anything to be really excited about, try to think of some positive benefits for doing them. For example, list the ways they will benefit your children, your spouse, yourself, your job or your home; think of them as a motivation. Identify the payoff, and focus on that. Even mundane tasks have some benefits. Sometimes it’s just a matter of switching our mindset to see the positive side.

4. Baby Steps
Sometimes the hardest part is actually getting started. A project seems so monstrous that we cringe at the thought of all that time and energy we’ll have to expend. Instead of overwhelming yourself, start small and have motivation.Set a timer for 15 minutes and just start working on it. Allow yourself, start small. Allow yourself to stop after 15 minutes if you really want to. But most often, once we actually start working on something, we won’t want to stop. Don’t focus on the big picture, have a motivated mindset, look at the smaller details and take them one at a time. Any large task seems manageable once we break it down into smaller steps.

5. Care of the Body
Sometimes our feelings of fatigue are caused by physical deficiencies, not mental. Be sure you are getting enough rest, eating food that nourishes your body, drinking enough water, getting enough exercise, etc. You just need to be motivated. Especially when we’re very busy, we tend to grab the quickest, easiest meals, which aren’t always the best choice for our bodies. Eating a lot of highly processed foods and sugar is like putting watered-down gasoline into our cars. In order for our cars to run smoothly, we need to maintain them properly, and so as to our bodies also. Remember, the body is the vehicle for the mind and soul!

A Motivated Mindset helps you to live a more fulfilled life

Finally, remember to reward yourself from time to time, and be gentle with yourself! There will be things that “need” to be done. But some of us take on way more than we can handle, and our lives turn into a pit of drudgery because of it. Having a positive and motivated mindset to do things is the key. Try to eliminate the things that truly don’t bring you joy, or at least minimise the time you spend on them. Do what you can, and let the rest go. Or ask for help. Don’t feel you have to do everything yourself. Remember that motivation, just like happiness, is something we CHOOSE. We may need to give ourselves a little push at the beginning, but once we get into the right mindset, it’s simple to stay there if we choose to.

Living Life to the Fullest

When we were young, we are often asked the question, “What would you like to be when you grow up?”  Some of us grow up pursuing the path toward that dream, while others find themselves still asking the same question.  Are you living the dream life that you’ve always envisioned?  Or are you living a life that other people has chosen for you? Are you happy with how you are living your life?

Living Life to the Fullest

Most people live in a routine.  Often times, when asked as to how they go about each day of their lives they would describe each day as waking up in the morning, going to work and coming home to rest and wake up the following morning doing the same thing.  That is how “they live”.  So the question is: are they really living their lives?

Life is a very precious gift and we are only given one chance to live it.  Here are some points to think about:

1.  Life and Work.  Are you living to work? Or are you working to live?  Work is very important.  It enables us to sustain our daily needs.  But, work is only a part of living and not a reason for living.  It may give you happiness because you are able to live your dream, but life does not end there.  Life does not have to begin at 8 o’clock in the morning and end at 5 o’clock in the afternoon.  If this is how we view life, then we will end up robots enslaved by time and by the world.

2.  Life and Material Things.  Can you say that you are fulfilled with your life because you have all the comforts that life can offer – a beautiful home, a luxury car, so much money to spend when you need to and when you want to?  The material things that you are able to gain for yourself cannot be used to measure the fullness of life.  If that would be the only case, then we can say that all billionaires have lived their lives to the fullest and that people who are penniless won’t be able to do so.

So, how do you say that you have lived your life to the fullest?

Be Happy.  When you find yourself in a sticky situation, or in a comfortable situation and you are still happy no matter what, then you can say that you are living your life to the fullest.  Happiness is a state of being and is not dependent on tangible things that can be taken away.

Love.  When you love other people and are able to share yourself with them, then you can say that you are living your life to the fullest.  Living and loving go hand in hand.  You cannot live without love and you cannot love when you do not have life.  When the time comes and you pass from this world, would there be even a single soul that can say that you have touched his/her life in a positive way?  When the answer is yes, then you can give yourself a tap on the shoulder for a job well done.

Living lifeto the fullest is not rocket science.  There are no rules as to how you should live your life or an exact measure where you can gauge yourself.  It all depends on you.  Living

your life is an everyday choice.  You can choose to waste your time on unimportant things or you can choose to make the most of each day that is given to you.

So why wait for tomorrow to start living?  Tomorrow might never come.  Live now and live as if this is your last day.

Prosperity, abundance, money, manifestation, wealth mindset, positive thinking

Mastering this train of thought is not easy, but it is simple enough if we keep working on it consistently. Following are some ideas to help you improve your thoughts, and ultimately attract more prosperity and abundance into your life:

Be grateful for the blessings in your life. Try taking a few minutes of your time each day to express heartfelt gratitude for the good things in your life. It is even more powerful to write a few of these blessings down each day. This will help to put your focus in the right direction ofabundance, not what you lack.

You can use positive affirmations to begin training yourself to think positively. Use “I am” statements such as “I am worthy of all that is good”. You may also write the statements down and repeat them nightly before going to bed. Doing this every time will implant thoughts into your subconscious mind, and you will begin to naturally believe them and havepositive thinking.

Creative visualisation and having clear thoughts can help you achieve prosperity by determining what it is you wish to achieve, and then thoroughly creating that image in your mind. This will work the same way as affirmations do. Our subconscious will fill with the images of prosperity and abundance.Eventually these subconscious “truths” will manifest into the physical. If you can “see” yourself as being prosperous and abundant, essentially you will become so.

Encourage yourself with the belief that you can achieve great things. This could also be one of your affirmations, but you must expand on it. Knowing you can earn a certain salary; tell yourself you can earn more money. Allow yourself to believe all things are possible, and you will gain confidence needed to reach higher than you ever imagined you could. Believing you can do it, you are more likely to take the risks associated with the people who are highly successful. Prosperity and success go hand in hand, so take risks and aim higher, positive thinking will achieve greatness.

Start a savings account. As strange as it sounds, you can think about this: Like can Attract Like. If you can only afford to put a few dollars into your account every month, it will begin to build up and attract more money.

Finally, you must have a wealth mindset and believe you are already wealthy. The creative ability of our thoughts is such that we lend more power and energy to whatever we consistently focus on. Focusing on what we lack will create more lack. Focusing on wealth and prosperity will create a much better way of positive thinking. Remember that this is a process. It won’t change your circumstances in one day. But in due time, with consistent focus and positive thinking, your thoughts will begin to attract what you want. When you are able to master this power of thought, there are truly no limits to what you can create and you can have a lot of prosperity.
